As part of its commitment to social responsibility, students from the Saudi Electronic University’s Jeddah branch participated in a mangrove planting initiative organized by the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture in Makkah region in collaboration with the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification. The initiative was held in celebration of World Wetlands Day on February 2, 2025.
Invited by the "Hiyam" volunteer team and supervised by Mrs. Ghdeer Tashkandi, the students joined over 300 volunteers on Youth Island, south of Al-Saif Beach in Jeddah, contributing to the planting of 2,000 mangrove saplings and participating in beach clean-up efforts.
The Deanship of Student Affairs and Community Service emphasized that this participation reflects the university’s commitment to fostering environmental awareness among students and promoting a culture of volunteerism in line with Saudi Vision 2030’s sustainable development goals. The initiative provided students with hands-on experience to engage with environmental issues and highlight the importance of preserving natural resources and biodiversity.
Mrs. Ghdeer Tashkandi expressed her pride in the students' active involvement, noting that this initiative was not just a volunteer opportunity but also an educational experience that instills environmental responsibility and nurtures values of giving and community cooperation.
The Jeddah branch reaffirms its dedication to supporting environmental and community initiatives, encouraging students to take part in volunteer activities that enhance quality of life and create a lasting positive impact on both the environment and society.
