The English language course is a prerequisite for passing the first year of the preparatory program, enabling students to enroll in the academic programs offered by the Saudi Electronic University. Since English is the language of instruction for most academic programs at the university, students must achieve the required scores on one of the university's approved standardized language tests, either the Standardized Test of English Proficiency (STEP) administered by the National Center for Assessment and Evaluation, or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) administered by the British Council. Passing the English language course for first-year preparatory students requires achieving the required scores on one of the university's approved standardized language tests, either the Standardized Test of English Proficiency (STEP) administered by the National Center for Assessment and Evaluation, or the IELTS administered by the British Council.

The requirement for passing the English language course for first-year common students:

Obtaining the required scores in any of the standardized language tests approved by the university, whether it is the English Language Proficiency Test (STEP) offered by  the National Center for Measurement and Evaluation , or the IELTS test offered by the British Council.

First-year students (all majors except Law and English):

  • The required score for direct equivalency:
    • STEP: 83

    • IELTS: 5.5

  • Minimum grade including coursework:

    • STEP: 60

    • IELTS: 4

Specialization: Law and Digital Media

  • The required score for direct equivalency:
    • STEP: 68

    • IELTS: 4.5

  • Minimum grade including coursework:

    • STEP: 45

    • IELTS: 3

English Language Major:

  • The required score for direct equivalency:
    • STEP: 83

    • IELTS: 5.5

  • Minimum grade including coursework:

    • STEP: 65

    • IELTS: 4.5
