The global trend in foreign language learning indicates a continuous increase in the number of individuals seeking to become multilingual or who already are. In this context, learning the Arabic language receives special international attention, not only among Muslims worldwide, for whom Arabic represents religious depth and a cultural and fraternal bond of essential value, but also due to the growing global demand for Arabic for various reasons—political, economic, academic, cultural, social, and touristic. Therefore, those wishing to learn Arabic have the right to find educational programs that achieve their objectives, meet their needs, overcome linguistic challenges, and align with their aspirations and expectations for the best teaching methods and tools. This is a responsibility of academic institutions dedicated to teaching and promoting Arabic around the world.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has played a pioneering role in promoting and teaching Arabic to non-native speakers since 1967, establishing institutes and centers for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers in most of its universities and supporting the establishment of such centers globally. The private and charitable sectors have also contributed to spreading Arabic and supporting its teachers and learners through teacher training courses, developing educational materials, designing e-learning software, offering online Arabic programs, and providing advisory services to universities and institutes worldwide that teach Arabic.

The programs offered by the Saudi Electronic University for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, including “Arabic Online” and the “Standardized Arabic Test”, contribute to achieving Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian mission of supporting and enhancing human communication, cultural exchange, and facilitating dialogue, coexistence, and mutual respect among cultures and peoples. These programs aim to establish effective scientific initiatives for spreading the Arabic language as a gateway to Arab culture, the language of Islam, and the Arab nation. They also ensure access to Arabic using the latest, high-quality distance learning technologies, based on a scientifically grounded curriculum informed by successful experiences and internationally recognized standards, in its contemporary standardized classical context and its vital functional dimension, linking language learning to practical life.
