Launching the Institutional Accreditation Project for E-Learning and Distance Education at Saudi Electronic University

On International Quality Day, Thursday, November 12, 2020, Saudi Electronic University launched a project to apply for institutional accreditation for e-learning and distance education. It pays attention to raise education quality and promote its outcomes in line with the Kingdom's vision and goals. SEU is the first university to apply these standards for e-learning and distance education since it is a Saudi public university that provides higher education by adopting the best education models based on e-learning applications and technologies.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is witnessing a great interest in the quality of education due to its noticeable impact on the national economy and development and the preparation of distinguished workforce to achieve effectiveness and education efficiency. Given the increasing reliance on modern technologies in education recently, such as e-learning, many universities have directed to provide it in the coming while. Because it is highly appropriate with learners' needs, and it is way too flexible and enhances their self-learning skills.

It is worth mentioning that Education & Training Evaluation Commission is the competent body in KSA to accredit educational institutions of public and private sectors and ensure the quality of their outputs and their contribution to the economy and development in the country. To develop the institutional accreditation standards for universities that provide e-learning and distance education, the commission adopted several factors, including supporting national approaches for higher education and focusing on outputs, impact, and consistency with international practices while giving higher education institutions space for more creativity and distinction.
