The Saudi Electronic University organized an introductory workshop on Data Management and Governance.
Her Excellency, Professor Lilac Ahmed AlSafadi, President of the Saudi Electronic University, inaugurated the workshop today at the JW Marriott Hotel in Riyadh. The event was attended by university vice presidents, along with representatives and business data specialists from various university departments and agencies.
In her opening remarks, Her Excellency emphasized the importance of data to the university and its strategic objectives. She affirmed that the university has developed a comprehensive Data Management and Governance Program tailored to its needs and aligned with the guidelines of the National Data Management Office (NDMO).
Dr. Ola Metwally, Chief Data Advisor to the University President, also delivered a speech in which she highlighted the office’s functions and initiatives. She provided an overview of the ongoing projects aimed at maximizing the benefits of data, such as ensuring real-time access to reliable, high-quality data and unlocking data value. Dr. Metwally also stressed the vital role of collaboration with university departments and agencies in driving the successful implementation of the university’s vision for data management and governance.
The workshop included an introduction to data concepts, an overview of data management and governance, and a presentation of the National Data Governance and Personal Data Protection Framework launched by the NDMO. It also covered the various domains of the national framework and introduced the ongoing project to establish the university’s Data Management and Governance Office as part of the broader institutional program.
Additional segments of the workshop were dedicated to introducing the framework’s key domains and explaining the requirements of the Personal Data Protection Law in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The workshop witnessed strong engagement from attendees through interactive activities and open discussions, which significantly contributed to its success. It is worth noting that this workshop is part of the university’s training and awareness plan within the larger project to establish its Data Management and Governance Office, with several additional workshops scheduled to take place in the near future.
