Preparatory Semester for the Master's Program

Introduction to the Semester

The Deanship of Graduate Studies at the College of Administrative and Financial Sciences at Prince Musaed bin Abdulrahman University is pleased to offer the Preparatory Semester for Master’s Programs (Pre-MBA). This qualifying program is held during the summer semester to prepare applicants and equip them with the essential knowledge and skills required before enrolling in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) programs. The semester will take place from June 28, 2026, to August 20, 2026.

Study Procedures

The courses offered during the preparatory semester follow an intensive study system, with each course meeting twice a week, and each session lasting approximately two hours. Lectures are held in the evening during the following time slots: 4:00–5:50 PM, 6:00–7:50 PM, and 8:00–9:50 PM.

The preparatory semester consists of four courses, each worth three credit hours.

The first course is Principles of Management (MGT490), which integrates management theory and practice and focuses on developing the competencies required for effective leadership, including planning, motivation, organizational control, change management, and decision-making. It also addresses local and global business issues within an ethical framework, emphasizing teamwork, communication skills, and conflict resolution.

The second course is Microeconomics (ECON490), which provides an introduction to economic theory and examines how economic forces shape the decisions of firms and individuals. It focuses on supply and demand, market equilibrium analysis, fundamental market structure models, externalities, the behavior of economic agents, and their global implications.

The third course is Principles of Financial Accounting (ACCT490), which explains how general-purpose financial statements communicate information about an entity’s financial performance and position to external users. The course covers the accounting cycle, journal entries, posting, adjustments, closing entries, and the preparation of financial statements for service and merchandising businesses. It also addresses key financial statement elements, including cash, receivables, inventory, long-term assets, liabilities, and equity.

The fourth course is Statistics (STAT490), which introduces students to statistics and its applications in business. It covers descriptive and inferential statistics, including measures of central tendency and dispersion, graphical data presentation, probability concepts and probability distributions, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, linear regression, and analysis of variance ANOVA, with the use of Microsoft Excel for data analysis.

Preparatory Semester Requirements

To successfully complete the preparatory semester and qualify for admission to the Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) program, students must achieve a minimum score of 75 out of 100 in each of the four courses.

This preparatory semester represents an essential step in ensuring applicants’ academic readiness and establishing the foundational knowledge required for graduate study in both master’s programs. The Deanship of Graduate Studies welcomes all prospective applicants and wishes them every success in their academic journey.
