Minor and Double Major Programs Initiative

Introduction

Given the rapid developments in the labor market and the emergence of a need for specializations that combine more than one specialization while maintaining the main specialization, and given the challenge faced by graduates of university programs in finding job opportunities for the programs available at the university, the university was keen to provide students with the opportunity to open up other important options for studying in specializations that are not available in the colleges in which they were accepted, which will either support and assist the main specialization or contribute to opening up important additional job opportunities in case it is not possible to employ them in their main specialization. These controls came to keep pace with what is happening in international reference universities and achieve a general national interest and add greater flexibility to the university’s programs.

An academic program that allows the student to obtain another major specialization, in addition to his primary specialization, and requires passing at least 30% of the program hours in the other specialization, provided that these hours are specialized, so that they do not include university requirements and free courses, and the name of the other major specialization is recorded in the graduation document (certificate) and in the student’s academic record.

Conditions for joining the dual program

  2. The student's registration in the other major requires the approval of the department to which the other major belongs, based on the regulations set by the department council, which must include:
  3. 1/ The student must complete at least (36) hours of his major program.
  4. 2/ The student’s cumulative GPA must not be less than 2.75 out of 4 or its equivalent, and the department may raise this percentage as it sees fit.
  5. For a student to register in the other major, the remaining time until his graduation must be sufficient.
  6. Any other controls and conditions set by the relevant scientific department, provided that they do not conflict with this regulatory framework.
