Self Designed Degree

The College of Administrative and Financial Sciences strives to offer a diverse range of programs and degrees to provide the skills and knowledge that meet the aspirations of university applicants and those wishing to pursue further studies. This diversity also helps meet the needs of the job market by offering specialized and professional programs and degrees. Furthermore, it contributes to achieving the goals derived from the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and the Ministry of Education's strategic plan. The first strategic objective is reflected in the first pillar (Empowering Learners) of the Saudi Electronic University's strategic plan, which states: "Providing distinguished education to empower learners to achieve their academic and professional aspirations."

A self-designated degree is an additional academic degree that a student (enrolled in a core program at the university) can register for, thus the student is enrolled in the core specialization and enrolled in the other program, subject to specific terms and conditions.

  1. Developing the student’s skills and knowledge in several areas simultaneously to satisfy his passions and interests.
  2. Providing study opportunities in disciplines that match the inclinations, desires and needs of applicants.
  3. Offering programs that support multidisciplinary approaches and are characterized by innovation and flexibility.
  4. To increase the necessary academic and professional skills and knowledge required by the labor market.
  5. Expanding future career paths for the graduate.
  6. Meeting the labor market's needs for multidisciplinary skills and capabilities.

  • There are many patterns for self-designated degrees, and the Saudi Electronic University has adopted the double major and minor degree at this stage.
  • The degrees must be self-designated for a specialization that exists at the university and grants a bachelor's degree.
  • The student’s enrollment in self-assigned academic degrees is optional, and he has the right to cancel his enrollment in the self-assigned academic degree whenever he is unable to complete it.
  • Self-designated academic degrees are offered to students enrolled at the Saudi Electronic University in accordance with the admission criteria for these degrees.
  • A student who is eligible to enroll in self-designated academic degrees may enroll in available degrees from other colleges or departments (other than the student's department).
  • Students are not allowed to enroll in more than one self-designated degree, such as enrolling in a double major and a minor simultaneously, or in more than one double major or minor simultaneously.
  • A self-designated degree is not considered an independent degree, so the student must pass the basic program in order for the self-designated degree to be approved.
  • The requirements for the self-designated degree are studied in conjunction with the core program, so that the core program and the self-designated degree are completed at approximately the same time.
  • All approved courses in the self-designated degree must be passed in order to be credited with the self-designated degree.
  • The College of Administrative and Financial Sciences has adopted two self-designated degree patterns, namely double major and minor major, and they will be applied to only two programs at the college level and will be offered in three branches (Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah). In future stages, more patterns and programs will be offered in many branches.
  • There are specific controls and conditions for each self-designated academic degree, in addition to what is stated in the study and examination regulations approved by the Ministry of Education and the executive rules of the Saudi Electronic University.

The dual specialization program is a self-designated academic degree where a student registers to study another specialization outside the scope or specialization of the student's primary specialization.

It is an academic program that allows the student to obtain another major specialization, in addition to his primary specialization, and requires passing at least 30% of the program hours in the other specialization, provided that these hours are specialized and do not include university requirements and free courses, and the name of the other major specialization is recorded in the graduation document (certificate) and in the student’s academic record.

  • The number of hours allocated to the double major must be no less than 30% of the hours of the other main program, excluding university requirements and free courses.
  • The other major must be different from the student's primary major and must be submitted from another college or academic department.
  • Recalculating the hours shared between the primary specialization and the other major is permitted, with a maximum of 8 hours.
  • The duration of study in dual-major programs is the approved duration of the basic program in the university system. The university council may add three semesters to the student’s regular duration to complete the requirements of the other major specialization, as a maximum. This duration is taken into consideration in the student’s favor with regard to his entitlement to honors.
  • Upon completion of the program requirements, the student is granted one graduation document (certificate), which includes the other major specialization, in addition to its recording in the student’s academic record.

A minor program is a self-designated academic degree where a student registers to study a different major outside the scope or major of the student's primary specialization.

It is an academic program that allows the student to obtain a minor in addition to his major, and requires passing at least 15% of the program hours in the other major, provided that these hours are major-specific and do not include university requirements and free courses, and the name of the minor is recorded in the student’s academic record only.

  • The number of hours allocated to the minor specialization is no less than 15% of the hours of the other main program, excluding university requirements and free courses.
  • The minor must be different from the student's major and must be submitted from another college or academic department.
  • Recalculating the hours shared between the primary specialization and the other major is permitted, with a maximum of 6 hours.
  • The duration of study in sub-specialization programs is the approved duration of the basic program in the university system. The university council may add three semesters to the student’s regular duration to complete the requirements of the other major specialization, as a maximum. This duration is taken into consideration in the student’s favor with regard to his entitlement to honors.
  • Upon completion of the program requirements, the student is granted one graduation document (certificate) that only confirms the major specialization. The minor specialization is recorded only in the student's academic record and is not confirmed in the graduation document.
