E-commerce is a major engine driving retail trade around the world, and it is expected that 22% of global purchases will be through e-commerce by 2023. This sector has witnessed significant growth locally since the launch of Vision 2030, with 60% of Saudis buying products online. One of the most important factors for the growth of this sector is the continuous innovation in technologies that have enhanced e-commerce operations. The e-commerce hackathon aims to develop innovative ideas that help provide a smooth shopping experience for consumers and wide e-commerce reach anytime and anywhere. This hackathon will give the opportunity to the participants to meet with a group of specialists in e-commerce and software development in a series of workshops that will result in a number of innovative projects. All stages of the hackathon will be conducted virtually on an interactive virtual platform.
Registration Tracks
- The owner of an idea for an innovative project, an application, a website, or a technology in the field of e-commerce.
- Experienced in (Design - Code Writing - Backend & Front-End Developer - MVP Design).
Hachathon Awards
The total prizes of twenty thousand Saudi riyals, distributed as follows:
- First place: ten thousand Saudi riyals.
- Second place: seven thousand Saudi riyals.
- Third place: three thousand Saudi riyals.
Workshops (Feb. 10,11, & 12, 2022) |
Participants attend a set of virtual lectures to develop programming skills and entrepreneurship, as well as learn about the areas of e-commerce development. Participants are obligated to attend the workshops and submit assignments to run for the hackathon stage. |
Hackathon (Feb. 18&19, 2022)

It is implemented remotely via virtual platforms so that participants can form teams and distribute tasks, and then the teams begin to develop their ideas, design and write the code for them. Where the progress of the teams' projects is monitored by specialists and experts in the fields of programming, entrepreneurship and e-commerce. Immediately after the hackathon, the teams nominated to win the first three places are evaluated for several criteria, including: originality of the idea, team integration, market evaluation of the idea, high team enthusiasm (presentation quality), the possibility of implementing the proposed solution (impact in scope), quality of implementation, level of innovation and exclusivity for the presented solution. |
- Registration is available for male and female students in Saudi universities, who are continuing their studies or recent graduates who have interest, experience, knowledge or ideas in the field of e-commerce technologies and applications.
- Registration is available for Saudis and residents who are 20 years old and above.
- There are two ways to sign up:
- The owner of an idea for an innovative project An application, website or technology in the field of e-commerce - customer experience - suppliers - societal participation of commercial enterprises - sustainability - customer loyalty - cyber security - human resources - operations and costs management.
- Experienced in (Design - Code Writing - Project Management - Backend & Front-End developer - MVP Prototype Design).
- To accept the registration, a Word or PDF file of no more than 10 MB must be attached, and explained as follows:
- If you have an idea, attach a one-page file explaining the idea and its dimensions in the field of e-commerce.
- If you have experience, attach a file with a brief CV and a list of your mastered skills, as well as any innovative ideas if you find them in the field of e-commerce.
- It will accept only innovative, original and new ideas and solutions that have not previously produced similar work in the field of e-commerce technologies and applications.
- The selected candidates are obligated to:
- Attending virtual workshops remotely and submitting the required assignments in order to qualify to attend the Hackathon.
- Attending the virtual hackathon remotely.
- Follow up the development of projects with supervisors and deliver the required work according to the announced times.
- You can add the names of the team members in the file that will be attached.
