During COVID-19, a number of prominent international studies found that the research productivity of female academics had been negatively affected. Based on this and the desire to support female academic faculty and students to develop their research capacity and skills, the "WEmpower" Research Accelerator Program was launched, with the support of the Deanship of Scientific Research and the Saudi Electronic University Leadership. The initiative is in alignment with the drive to both empower women and build capacity in research development and productivity in the Kingdom, as part of the Vision 2030.
Objectives of the "WEmpower" program at the Saudi Electronic University:
- Support scientific research activities by female academics and postgraduate students, using the multiple educational and technological components at the Saudi Electronic University.
- Create aspace for female academic faculty and postgraduate students to develop their research ideas and skills, network, share their research challenges and develop innovative solutions.
- Increase the productivity of valuable scientific research by female academic faculty and postgraduate students.
- Enhanceresearch cooperation and collaboration opportunities between female academic faculty and postgraduate students and create women's research groups.
- Facilitateparticipation in scientific research activity and utilization of the digital platforms at the University.
- Enhance the quality of research training andskills development and facilitate the building of a robust knowledge economy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Ghada Bin Saif is a Professor and Consultant of Dermatology and Hair Disorders specialist at King Saud University. She attained Hair Disorders Fellowship from Wake Forest University school of medicine, USA. She has held many health care and academic leadership posts including: Vice Rector for Health Affairs and General Director of Heath care services at Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University, and Vice Rector for Female Students Affairs at King Saud University. She has been a member in numerous boards and committees. Prof. Bin saif received many honors and awards including the North American Hair Research Society mentorship award, USA, 2011. She maintains a steady record of publications in the fields of Dermatology and Hair Disorders. In addition, she has been a speaker in many national and international events and conferences. |
Prof. Hend S. Al-Khalifa |
Hend S. Al-Khalifa is a Full Professor with the Information Technology Department, King Saud University and the head of iWAN research group. She is also a prolific researcher with an H-index of 31 and a publication record of over 170 research papers in workshops, international conferences and high-impact ISI journals. Hend has been a principal investigator and co-investigator on over 10 research grants. She also serves as a member of the Editorial Board of journal of King Saud University - Computer and Information Sciences (Q1 journal) (since 2012) and a program committee member of many national and international NLP conferences including NAACL-HLT, EMNLP, WANLP, ACLing, and OSACT. Prof. Al-Khalifa's research interests include Arabic NLP, Semantic Web, HCI and computers for people with special needs. |
Prof. Sinaa Al Aqeel |
Dr. Sinaa Alaqeel earned her M.S.c and her Ph.D. from the University of Manchester, the United Kingdom. She is currently a full professor at the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, College of Pharmacy at King Saud University. She has held different leadership positions and her academic activities include numerous committees within the school and the university. Her research focuses on medicines optimisation through the safe use of medicines, improved adherence, and effective pharmacist-led patient counselling. She has a special interest in advocating the need for the application of economic evaluation evidence to health policy decision-making in Saudi Arabia. Alaqeel has co-authored several papers on higher education policy. |
Dr. Abdulaziz Turki Almaktoom |
Dr. Abdulaziz T. Almaktoom is an Associate Professor in the Department of Supply Chain Management at Effat University in Jeddah. He earned his PhD in Industrial Engineering from Wichita State University in the USA. Dr Almaktoom is a certified supply chain analysist, and certified LEAN Six Sigma Green Belt. He has won many national and international awards and has published more than 30 journal and conference papers, and his research interests include supply chain management and logistics, optimization under uncertainty, reliability-based robust design optimization, facilities Planning, Industrial Ergonomics and Safety, Decision and Data Analysis, Renewable Energy, and Sustainability. Dr. Raniyah Wazirali is an assistant professor at the Saudi Electronic University who loves teaching and developing cutting-edge cryptography, steganography, intrusion detection and their intersection with different disciplines for high impact applications. Currently, she is working on IoT and smart person identification algorithms, focusing particularly on machine learning and optimization, with a willingness to implement them in the context of solving various combinatorial problems. Dr. Haya S. Zedan | Dr. Haya Zedan is an assistant professor and the Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research in the College of Health Sciences at the Saudi Electronic University. She writes and conducts research in the areas of women's leadership in academia and healthcare, maternal mental health and wellness. She is the Head of the University Academic Advising Program and the Head of the Committee for the WEmpower Women's Research Accelerator Program. She mentors and supervises multiple faculty and students, providing academic research, and career productivity coaching and guidance, especially for women and mothers in academic settings. |
Dr. Hadeel Alkofide |
Hadeel Alkofide, MSs, PhD, is an assistant Professor at the Clinical Pharmacy Department, King Saud University. In addition, she works as a consultant for the Saudi Food and Drug Administration (SFDA). Dr. Alkofide has received her PhD degree in Clinical and Translational Sciences from Tufts University, United States. Dr. Alkofide’s primary areas of research interests include evidence-based methods for a variety of clinical topics and multiple treatment comparison, and meta-epidemiological studies. Dr. Alkofide’s research has focused on cardiovascular medicine and has worked on the use of various clinical biomarkers for the prediction of cardiovascular outcomes and as potential treatment targets. |

Abeer Alyami is an Assistant Professor in the English Language Institute (ELI) at University of Jeddah. She did her undergraduate studies in Linguistics and Literature in 2004. She completed her Master's degree in 2015, and her PhD in Linguistics and TESOL in 2020 from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. She has been teaching English in the ELI for over 5 years. Dr. Marwah Almasri is a computer science expert, researcher, and reviewer. She has received many awards from various international honor societies such as Upsilon Pi Epsilon and Phi Kappa Phi. Dr. Reem Al-Samiri is an assistant professor of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at the University of Jeddah. She holds both master’s and doctorate degrees in Curriculum and Instruction of TESOL from the University of Kansas, USA, as well as a Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) from the University of Cambridge, UK. Ms. Rania Felemban has over 14 years of experience, nine of which are in the clinical research field. She earned a master's degree in Clinical Research from Eastern Michigan University in the USA. She is a certified member of the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) and an accredited me+mber of the Return on Investment Institute (ROI). Also, she has her intellectual work featured in a book, journals, and other social media. She is currently working as the Director of Clinical Research at King Abdullah Medical City and the Manager of Research and Development at Naqaa Solutions for Environmental Services. Ms. Felemban is an experienced presenter leading groups to present virtual and interactive clinical research topics to enhance the research culture, orient concerned parties, train research teams, and guide those with challenges in research compliance. Her critical assets are clinical research, research administration, presenting, project management, proposal writing, strategic planning, and team building. |
Ms. Amal Awad Alhassani |
Ms. Amal has been working as a head of Innovation Awareness department in the Executive Administration of Research and Innovation (KAMC). She earned a BA in Health Administration and an Executive Master of Business Administration. She is certified in the field of innovation and excellence as an EFESO-Healthcare Innovation Professional. She is also an AIPMM-Certified Innovation Leader (CIL®) and a KAQA-Certified Internal Assessor. In addition, she is certified in facilitation as IAF- Certified Endorsed Facilitator (EFTM). She participated as an expert in national hackathons, such as 360 Hackathon with Tabadul Company and Health Entrepreneurship Hackathon with Makkah Chamber. In addition, she supervised one of Makkah's talent projects that is qualified for the final phase of the Ebdah Olympics 2019. Finally, she trained more than 3000 innovators over the past five years. She has an interest in design thinking, customer experience, and content marketing. |
