The SEU in Jeddah Takes Part in Raising Community Awareness about Celiac Disease
The Saudi Electronic University in Jeddah, in collaboration with the Health Awareness and Public Relations Department of Al-Oyoun Hospital in Jeddah, launched an awareness campaign. This campaign aims to educate the community about celiac disease, and it took place at the Tahlia Center.
The campaign included raising awareness about celiac disease, which is a chronic autoimmune genetic disorder that affects the small intestine. It's one of those immune conditions where the body attacks itself when gluten is consumed. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, oats, rye, and their derivatives, including wheat flour and beer yeast. Therefore, it's essential to raise awareness about this disease, which affects 2% of the population in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The campaign featured informational brochures about the services provided to wheat allergy (celiac) patients during Celiac Awareness Month. It encouraged them to register to receive free food items offered through 43 hospitals across the Kingdom.
