This program is characterized by the application of the adaptive learning system for the first time in the region. The Saudi Electronic University has signed an agreement with the leading educational platform in this field from 25 years ago, which is Area 9. This modern teaching method considers the learners' learning levels, their scientific background, the speed of their comprehension, and the extent of their self-confidence.

Regarding the content, the English diploma program offers twenty courses mainly in the fields of English as a second language, translation, interpretation, and research and presentation skills. These courses were created by experienced faculty members whose research and scientific interests lie at the intersection of those academic fields. The faculty members set several milestones to be achieved by each learner enrolling in the program.

Learners will enhance their English language skills to be able to successfully pass English language standardized tests (such as IELTS and TOEFL). Along similar lines, students will become aware of the emerging field of computer applications in language and translation that provides skills currently needed in the global and local job market.

Most importantly, learners will gain valuable interpersonal, research, critical thinking, and presentation skills to establish their academic and professional careers.

Study Duration

The program is offered in 4 semesters to complete 60 Credit Hours. In terms of length, the student will spend one year and a half to graduate and receive the certificate.

English Language Diploma on the Internet Based on Adaptive Learning

This program is based on a modern, advanced scientific teaching methodology, which is an adaptive learning, that is characterized by diversity in teaching methods and considering the different levels of learners.

The adaptive learning theory adopted by AREA 9 is based on the principle of the individual differences of learners resulting from internal natural or external social causes. Thus, it comes the role of adaptation of the method of curriculum’s presentation, so that the learner can go to the next lesson without spending more time on concepts that he quickly realized. On the other hand, another student who needs more explanation can be exposed to more detailed information to deliver the information to him. Therefore, the AREA 9 platform provides a large area of options to help each learner individually.

What are the benefits of adaptive learning?

First: Compared to traditional training (Cut’s training time in half, Creates higher proficiency and No one left behind).

Second: Eliminates boredom and frustration.

Third: Improves business outcomes.

Fourth: Uncovers and fixes unconscious incompetence.

Fifth: Retention and reinforcement.

How to study English language based on an adaptive learning?

The study in this program is available entirely remotely. The student begins by logging into his account on the Blackboard platform and begins interacting with the carefully designed digital content from the Department of English and Translation. He watches a video followed by questions, an audio clip followed by questions, and a reading text followed by questions. All of these materials are exposed to a learner at the appropriate time before meeting the course instructor.

At the time of the synchronous virtual lecture via the blackboard, the students discuss with the instructor the issues and problems they faced and they inquire about the topics they did not understand.

After answering the students' questions and interventions, the instructor sheds light on the most important goals of the week and the basic concepts that the student must understand. Thus, the flipped classroom is applied in which the Saudi Electronic University policy has sought to implement it since its establishment.
